Overview
This Tree of Life was a large-format commissioned watercolor artwork, created at approximately 32 × 24 inches. The client offered complete creative freedom, trusting me entirely with the interpretation. What emerged was a deeply layered, narrative composition rooted in Indian flora, fauna, and cultural symbolism—designed to feel timeless, abundant, and emotionally resonant.
Concept & Inspiration
I approached this piece as more than a symbolic tree. I wanted it to feel alive—growing, flowering, and holding multiple stories within a single form. The tree became the central anchor, with each branch thoughtfully composed to carry elements of nature that represent continuity, nurture, and harmony.
Indian birds such as sparrows, parrots, and a peacock were woven into the branches, alongside gentle animal pairings like a deer with its fawn and a cow with her calf. These were chosen not for decoration, but for the quiet emotional familiarity they bring—grounded, tender, and deeply connected to the land.
Flora, Botanical & Natural Language
The florals and botanicals were inspired by Indian gardens and sacred offerings, brought together as one continuous, growing ecosystem rather than separate elements. Flowers such as lotus, marigold, jasmine, rose, and peonies flow organically through the branches, supported by fruits like apples, pomegranates, berries, and peaches—suggesting nourishment, prosperity, and abundance.
Butterflies and bees add subtle movement and lightness, creating rhythm within the composition while allowing the painting to breathe despite its density.
Visual Language & Palette
The palette was kept warm and harmonious, allowing reds, pinks, greens, and earthy browns to coexist without overpowering one another. The detailing remains consistent across the entire surface, ensuring no part of the painting feels secondary.
A soft gold-toned border frames the artwork, lending it a ceremonial finish and elevating it from a decorative piece to something more heirloom in nature.
Artistic Process
This painting was created slowly and deliberately, with careful attention to balance, spacing, and narrative flow. Given the scale and complexity, every element was placed with intention—ensuring the composition felt cohesive, grounded, and visually calm despite its richness.
